Women's Health: Physical and Mental Issues

Women’s health issues include a wide range of considerations. A woman’s body is constantly going through changes that can affect her not only physically, but also mentally. As such childbearing sex, pregnancy and infertility are a major health consideration for many women.

As women leave their child bearing years, menopause is another health consideration they have to face. Today’s modern woman wants to be as healthy as she possibly can be, and this is the reason for the rise in women’s health centers across the country.

A healthy diet is the first step to a healthy lifestyle. Women need to make sure they eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Also, because many women have a tendency to be anemic, a healthy diet needs to have plenty of iron in it. Iron can be found in red meat, fish, and dark green, leafy vegetables. Moderation is also important in a healthy diet. Women should avoid too much sugar, fat, and meat, and drink plenty of water.

Incorporating fitness and exercise into each day will also keep the modern woman in good health and keep her skin looking younger.. A healthy lifestyle for a woman also involves keeping the yearly checkups and screenings that she needs. These checkups are designed to find breast cancer, cervical cancer, sexual diseases, and other women’s health problems before they progress to the point where they cannot be treated. For example, if you find out you have breast cancer at one of your yearly exams, and the breast cancer is still in its earliest stages, you can likely undergo treatments to completely rid yourself of the cancer. Breast cancer that has progressed, however, and spread to other parts of the body is often fatal. This is why these yearly screenings are so important.

Menopause, the time of a woman’s life when she stops having her menstrual cycle, brings with it a variety of health concerns. Women going through the early stages of menopause often experience hormonal imbalances that can lead to mood swings, anxiety, depression, and hot flashes. One popular treatment for these hormonal imbalances involves taking estrogen supplements to balance the body’s hormones, but recent studies indicate that this could cause breast cancer. There are a variety of natural herbal remedies on the market to help the body adjust to the changes of menopause.

Women’s mental health is another concern many women have. Many women suffer from depression. Sometimes this depression has a medical cause, such as menopause, pregnancy induced depression, or PMS, and other times it does not. The important thing for women to realize is that there are many doctors who are skilled in treating women’s mental health issues, and there is help for their depression! Women who suffer from anxiety, depression, or other mental health complaints should seek the treatment of a qualified women’s mental health professional.
